Tournoi Facile

Run a volleyball tournament: groups, courts and set scores

In volleyball, the number of sets and court changeovers matter as much as the number of teams. A useful programme allows time for play, recovery and the work around each court.

Prepare my tournament

Choose the match format first

Decide the scoring format and categories before assigning teams. Best of three and best of five have different potential running times. Groups determine who plays whom; the scoring format determines how each match is won.

Give each team several matches

Two groups of four offer three group matches per team. The top two from each group can then enter the semi-finals. Count any placement matches as well: they need courts, time and officials.

Plan the court rotation

Declare the courts you can use and allow for warm-ups and changeovers. If teams take turns officiating, check those assignments with your volunteers. A team having no playing conflict does not automatically mean it is available to referee another match.

Record sets rather than one combined score

Enter each set in the volleyball screen. Check the deciding set and special match decisions before validating. Standings depend on your chosen rules: tell teams the tie-break criteria before the event and check the competition settings.

A worked example

Eight teams on two courts

Two groups of four, with the top two qualifying for semi-finals and a final.

Eight teams on two courts
Group stage2 × 6 = 12 matches
Final stage3 matches
Total15 matches

Best-of-three matches take two or three sets. Allow for the longer case rather than assuming every match ends in straight sets.

Step by step in TournoiFacile

  1. Choose the sport and entrants

Select your sport when creating a tournament. Name the competition and enter the categories and numbers of entrants. You can add final names later. Open the custom format if your event needs a different structure.

  2. Prepare the matches

Choose the groups and what follows them. Add the pitches, courts or tables you can actually use, together with the playing days and available times. Allow for breaks and changeovers.

  3. Check the schedule

Generate the programme, then check rest times and each category’s start times. Manual placement also lets you work by round, phase or category. Review estimated times before publishing.

  4. Record and share results

Enter results using the scoring screen for your sport. Share the public link so that participants and spectators can find fixtures, scores and standings on their phones.

Practical questions

Can results be entered set by set?

Yes. Volleyball has a dedicated screen for sets and their points.

Will the tournament fit into half a day?

That depends on courts, set format and breaks. Check the whole programme before announcing a finish time.

These guides describe the workflows available in TournoiFacile. The figures are planning examples, not guaranteed running times. For a sanctioned competition, check the rules and requirements with your governing body.

Make it your tournament
