Plan a football tournament across age groups and two days

Start with how much playing time you want every team to receive. The groups, age categories and pitches then need to fit into your available days. These decisions matter more than filling a spreadsheet with kick-off times.

Prepare my tournament

20 teams: two groups of ten or four groups of five?

Both are valid choices, but their workload is very different. With every opponent played once, two groups of ten require 90 matches; four groups of five require 40. Each team plays nine or four group matches respectively. Customise the group allocation in guided creation instead of accepting a default that does not suit your event.

A league without playing everyone

A full 20-team round robin requires 190 matches. A partial league with five matches per team requires 50, if the configuration is feasible. The total number of team appearances must be even: 20 × 5 works mathematically; 15 × 5 does not. This describes limited opponents, not a complete implementation of Champions League regulations.

Several age groups, one shared schedule

Set up U10, U11 or adult categories with their own entry counts and, where needed, match durations. Declare every playing day and pitch availability. Review the schedule by category and day so that a Sunday final is not announced with Saturday’s times.

Check before sharing

Review recovery time, lunch breaks and when teams need to leave. Allow time for finals and presentations too. Once checked, share the public page so that coaches and families can find kick-off times, scores and standings.

A worked example

20 teams, four groups and a knockout stage

The top two teams in each group advance to the quarter-finals.

20 teams, four groups and a knockout stage
Group stage4 × 10 = 40 matches
Quarter-finals, semi-finals, final4 + 2 + 1 = 7 matches
Total47 matches

This excludes a third-place game and other placement matches. Add their fixtures and time slots if you include them.

Step by step in TournoiFacile

  1. Choose the sport and entrants

Select your sport when creating a tournament. Name the competition and enter the categories and numbers of entrants. You can add final names later. Open the custom format if your event needs a different structure.

  2. Prepare the matches

Choose the groups and what follows them. Add the pitches, courts or tables you can actually use, together with the playing days and available times. Allow for breaks and changeovers.

  3. Check the schedule

Generate the programme, then check rest times and each category’s start times. Manual placement also lets you work by round, phase or category. Review estimated times before publishing.

  4. Record and share results

Enter results using the scoring screen for your sport. Share the public link so that participants and spectators can find fixtures, scores and standings on their phones.

Practical questions

Can I add team names later?

Yes. Prepare the structure with temporary names, then complete the teams before publishing.

Can the schedule cover a weekend?

Yes. Enter the days and available times, then check availability and rest across the whole tournament.

These guides describe the workflows available in TournoiFacile. The figures are planning examples, not guaranteed running times. For a sanctioned competition, check the rules and requirements with your governing body.
