Organise a basketball tournament: 5-on-5, 3x3 and scheduling

Start with one decision: is your basketball tournament 5-on-5 or 3x3? This changes how scores and playing time work. Groups and court assignments follow that choice.

3x3 is more than a smaller team

TournoiFacile has distinct result profiles for conventional basketball and 3x3. Select the profile for your event before play begins. Time, target scores and overtime do not work interchangeably across these formats.

Fit groups to your court capacity

Eight teams in two groups of four produce 12 group games. Every team plays three times before the finals. Set your categories and qualification rules, and reserve enough time after the group stage for the qualifiers to recover.

Clock time is not the whole booking slot

Include stoppages, breaks between periods, warm-ups and scorer’s table changeovers when planning court use. For a multi-day event, check every category on the correct day. Short playing time can still require a longer real-world slot.

Keep the result details

Use basketball scoring for the periods, overtime and decisions allowed by the chosen profile. Check the total before validating. The public page gives teams and supporters one place for the schedule and results instead of repeated screenshots.

A worked example

Eight teams and a final stage

Two groups of four. The top two in each group reach the semi-finals.

The game count is the same in 5-on-5 and 3x3, but slot lengths and the result profile must match the format you play.

Step by step in TournoiFacile

  1. Choose the sport and entrants

Select your sport when creating a tournament. Name the competition and enter the categories and numbers of entrants. You can add final names later. Open the custom format if your event needs a different structure.

  2. Prepare the matches

Choose the groups and what follows them. Add the pitches, courts or tables you can actually use, together with the playing days and available times. Allow for breaks and changeovers.

  3. Check the schedule

Generate the programme, then check rest times and each category’s start times. Manual placement also lets you work by round, phase or category. Review estimated times before publishing.

  4. Record and share results

Enter results using the scoring screen for your sport. Share the public link so that participants and spectators can find fixtures, scores and standings on their phones.

Practical questions

Does 3x3 have a separate result profile?

Yes. Select the 3x3 profile instead of merely reducing the number of players in a conventional game.

Can categories play on different days?

Yes. Set the playing days and check each category’s schedule before publishing.

These guides describe the workflows available in TournoiFacile. The figures are planning examples, not guaranteed running times. For a sanctioned competition, check the rules and requirements with your governing body.
